Latitude represents the geographic coordinate specifying the north-south position of a point on the Earth's surface. Measured in degrees, it ranges from 0° at the Equator to 90° at the North and South poles. These lines of constant latitude, known as parallels, run horizontally across the globe.

How this tool works
The Same Latitude tool helps you visualize the global alignment of cities. When you search for a location, we use its stored coordinates and scan our worldwide database for places within ±0.5 degrees of the same parallel — roughly 55 kilometers (34 miles) north or south.
Our database currently contains 69,171 cities with populations of 5,000 or more. City names, coordinates, population, country, administrative region and time zone data are provided by GeoNames under the CC BY license.
The matches are displayed on an interactive relief map alongside demographic data, offering a different perspective on human settlement patterns across the globe.

Our tool considers cities to be on the same latitude if they are within ±0.5 degrees of the target city's parallel. This provides a generous but geographically relevant band that represents roughly 55 kilometers (34 miles) north or south of the exact coordinate.
Does being on the same latitude mean having the same weather?
While latitude strongly correlates with solar energy reception and climate zones, other geographical features dramatically alter weather. For example, ocean currents, altitude, and continental landmasses mean cities like New York and Naples have different climates despite similar latitudes.
